Hemodialysis Staff Nurse
Duties & Responsibilities
- Renders professional nursing care to patients in the Dialysis unit of the hospital, in support of medical care as directed by medical staff and pursuant to the objectives and policies of the hospital.
- Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient.
- Prepares equipment and assists physician during treatment and examinations of patients.
- Administers prescribed medication orally and by injections; provides treatments using therapeutic equipment; observes patients’ reactions to medications and treatments; observes progress of intravenous infusions and subcutaneous infiltrations; changes or assists physicians in changing dressings and cleaning wounds or incisions; takes vital signs to detect deviations from normal and monitor progress of patients, following physician’s orders and approved plan of care.
- Observes records and reports to Head Nurse and Physician patients’ condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; endorses the same to incoming nursing staff, usually through the Head Nurse.
- Maintains patients’ medical records on nursing observations and actions taken such as medication and treatments given, reactions, tests, intake and output of liquids and solids, vital signs.
- Observes emotional stability of the patients, express interest in their progress and prepares them for continuing care after discharge (discharge planning).
- Explains procedures and treatments ordered to obtain patient’s cooperation and allay apprehension.
- Rotates on all shifts and may be asked to rotate among various clinical and nursing services of the hospital.
- Assists planning, supervising and instructing nursing aides and orderlies / institutional workers; demonstrates nursing techniques and procedures and assists non-professional nursing personnel in rendering nursing care in unit.
- Assist with operations and deliveries by sterilizing instruments, equipment and supplies and handling them in order of use to the surgeon or other medical specialist.
- Maintains clean and orderly environment of the unit.
- In the absence of the Head Nurse, carefully reviews all hospital charges of the patient before forwarding to the office.
- In the absence of Head Nurse makes necessary requisitions and job orders.
- Attend and give care to both In and Outpatient clients.
- Check patient’s vital signs and talk with them to assess their condition.
- Rinse dialyzer before and after using.
- Prepare the machine and prime blood tubing.
- Cannulate, initiate, terminate dialysis treatment.
- Provide care to patient’s temporary and permanent access: intra-jugular, subclavian, femoral catheter, arterio-venous fistula, arterio-venous graft.
- Oversee the dialysis treatment from start to finish.
- Teach patients about their disease and its treatment and answer any questions.
- Make sure patients are given the correct medications ordered by their doctors.
- Evaluate patient’s reaction to Dialysis treatment and Medications.
- Review patient’s laboratory work, Home medications and activities and let the doctors know about changes in their patient’s condition.
- Carries out other duties and activities that may be delegated by the Head Nurse and / or Superior without compromising the performance of primary duties and activities.
Qualifications:
- Candidate must possess at least Bachelor's/College Degree, Professional License (Passed Board/Bar/Professional License Exam) in Nursing or equivalent.
- Required language(s): Filipino, English
- Required Skill(s): BLS, ACLS, IVT, Bedside Care, etc.
- Probationary employment starts on the 1st Day of Training.
